This Week's Pick: Favorite Coffeeshop

Our team discusses their favorite place to get a cup of coffee, get some work done, or grab a snack. We had three votes for Cafe Sol, a place that focuses on keeping their food sourced locally. Choose from the breakfast or lunch options, sandwiches, salads, or even their quesadillas and smoothies. Gluten free friendly, and accomodating to other dietary restrictions. Bryon deemed it a "hip place with a ton of space to hang out, meet with people and connect to wifi."

Zoe likes to visit, "especially in the summer when you can sit outside, its right in the middle of town and there is always a stream of people in and out."

Deb enjoys the outdoor element and great service. "The staff is friendly and extremely helpful."

Another great local spot, is Mystic Market East, Maria Brenza's favorite. "I love the variety of coffee they have to offer, and they have an extensive option for food and desert as well that is delectable. It is a great place to bring your laptop and catch up on work, or grab a cup to go"

Tim Bray loves the coffee at the shop in the Stonington Borough. "The down home feeling of Yellow House was the start to my day for years. Felt like I was back in Maine."

In Mystic, Lucy likes to visit Li's Bake Shopat 15 Holmes St. They have gluten free options, although she used to enjoy their cupcakes

This week’s topic: Restaurants in Mystic

Engine Room and Oyster Club definitely are both favored this week. With so many restaurants to choose from it was a hard decision for our agents

Engine Room, 14 Holmes St.

Located in the Lathrop Marine Engine building. The owners have a deep background in food, previously opening the Oyster Club together. The menu features upscale bar food, with a focus on burgers and bourbon. “We like to get there at 4 Pm and get one of the oversized corner booths," said Tim Bray. "The kids love the food, environment and I love the craft beer."

Lucy enjoys the atmosphere and focus on going out. “They have Dj's a lot and more of a late night presence.” – Lucy

Featuring "farm and sea-to-table" food, the Oyster Club is known for quality. "I have most likely enjoyed 3 of my personal top 5 meals of all-time right here, they are that good” said Byron Lazine.

Latitude 41, 105 Greenmanville Ave.

Latitude 41 is part of Coastal Gourmet Group, a restaurant open to the public located at Mystic Seaport. A great spot for lunch, dinner, and even large events like weddings. Choose from seating inside the main dining room, the outdoor patio, or inside the Shipyard Tavern.

“No matter what the occasion, Latitude 41 is always accommodating for my reservations. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable of the dishes. The seafood is always fresh, and the menu has a unique, elegant flare” – Maria Brenza.

Mystic Pizza, 56 W. Main St.

Famous from the Hollywood movie, Mystic Pizza continues to be a Main Street staple. Choose from Italian classics like Chicken Parmesan, Meatballs, and of course pizza.

“My family loves the pizza here. The atmosphere is fun and the staff is friendly and provides excellent service.” – Deb

Credit Scores for Homebuyers

Check out this new video on Credit Sesame where Real Estate Raw & Uncut focus on credit scores for home buyers. Byron Lazine and Tim Bray talk off the cuff about why your credit score can affect your mortgage and interest rate.

Are you a first time home buyer or are you just looking to buy a new home? One of the biggest challenges for buying a home is getting a mortgage. To get a great rate for your mortgage, it's important to have a great credit score. By building a good credit history, you are guaranteeing that you will save thousands of dollars on your mortgage with a lower interest rate.

Some tips for keeping your credit score high:

Use credit to create better credit. You can't build your credit score without actually getting credit cards and using them.

Make managable purchases on credit cards. Don't max out your cards with purchases beyond your financial means. Pay off most of your balance every month. Keep only a $10-$50 balance every month, and the credit card company will report that you are responsibly using your credit.

Make your payments on time Do not miss payments, this is where your credit score will get hit. Set up a scheduled payment, calendar reminder, or whatever you need to get your payments made on time.
